Hi "hmmm"
I know that the lead actress Michelle Monaghan acutally learnt to drive a truck in order to make her character more believable – and I think she spent some time talking with "lady drivers" – if you check through the interviews section of this site you'll probably find some references
Thanks for the pointer. I'm definitely looking forward to seeing the movie. I hope it will be shown on the big screen somewhere that I will be able to catch it. I love to see depictions of female drivers that show us as something other than fat, toothless, ignorant and racist.

What? You mean female drivers aren't fat, toothless, ignorant and racist? Just kidding – Michelle Monaghan definitely breaks that stereotype!

Yes, Michelle Monaghan worked very hard to learn to drive a truck and, in fact, whenever you do see her behind the wheel she is actually driving. She's not on a trailer or in a pretend truck, she's really behind the wheel of a big rig. She also talked to many female drivers and went on ride alongs. She totally immersed herself in this world. For myself I did a great deal of research for many years and I think you will see that the film is quite beautiful visually and that in the story I really tried to tell a very straight forward, dignified and honest tale of this one woman's experience, the main character of Diane Ford.

So in the scene where she's at the truck stop showering place, did that fat trucker guy with the tatoos bang her or what? I was so confused because you kept showing then give each other glances and then she follows him but the next scene is just of her showering alone… Was there a trucker sex scene that didn't make the final cut?

Hi James,
We met after the screening of "Trucker" at the AFF and I had asked about the theatrical distribution of the film. You had mentioned that it was opening in a few cities in 25 theaters and could possibly go wide afterwards. I believe that the company brokering the distribution deal had also arranged theatricals for "Bowling for Columbine" and "Little Miss Sunshine." Please let me know if this is still the plan for the theatrical release, as I have not heard anything about its release since the screening in October. I think you have written and directed a truly extraordinary film and hope it gets the theatrical release that it deserves.

The film opens Oct. 9 in New York, Oct. 16 in LA and many other cities. I just posted a link to the distibution company's website. Please check back on this site for additional information as I will check it myself regularly. Let me know if you have any questions re: the film.

Eugene, I am extremely late repsponding. Apologies. The film opens Oct. 9 in New York and LA on Oct. 16 and many other cities like San Diego, Portland, OR, Pittsburgh, Chicago, Louisville. Check the distributors website for additional cities and times. Thank you very much for coming to my film. It was a real pleasure to meet you. That was a very nice theater!
